Quarantine Life: Day 37, Paleo on the Go
Since we started our autoimmune protocol (AIP) diet in January, we’ve pretty much cooked all of our meals from scratch. AIP is such a restrictive diet that there’s really no way we can eat out or order meals. Even something as simple as a can of tuna can be non-compliant if it includes regular salt (which has iodine) instead of sea salt. That’s why the key to the AIP lifestyle is prep, prep, prep. There’s really no such thing as grabbing an easy snack out of the pantry, unless it’s a piece of fruit, compliant olives or something simple.
Layering the lockdown onto our AIP life has made things even more challenging. Grocery stores are often in limited supply of the specific, organic, AIP-compliant food we are allowed to eat. Plus, we’ve been craving a little variety in our menu. We’ve been doing our best to cook meat, sweet potatoes and other veggies in creative ways, but there are only so many iterations of meat and potatoes we can cook before we start dreaming of other dishes.
Cue in: Paleo on the Go. It’s a meal delivery service that is fully compliant to the AIP lifestyle! What? I know. It sounds too good to be true, but it’s the real deal. Over the past few months, I don’t know how many times we’ve excitedly picked up products from the grocery store shelves that are labeled “paleo” or “gluten free” or something similar, only to find out that one or more other ingredients disqualify the product from AIP. I’ve lost track of how many bags of plantain chips or cassava chips I’ve grabbed before realizing that sunflower seed oil, black pepper or something else on the no-no list was used.
That’s why finding Paleo on the Go was such a big deal for us. For once, every single thing on the menus is AIP compliant. We placed our first online order a couple of days ago and it arrived today, packaged nicely in dry ice.
We ordered:
So far, we’ve only tried the snickerdoodles, which were amazing. Think of a crunchy peanut butter cookie. We’ll share our thoughts on the other items as we try them.
What are your favorite meal delivery services?
