Spring Break, Part II

I have just had the best spring break ever! My friend Ania and I survived for six weeks with one backpack each and a broke student's budget. We hopped from plane to plane, hostel to hostel. After 6 weeks, 15 flights, and 8 destinations, I have completely wiped out my bank account and last stores of energy...but it was sooo worth it!

This past spring break I have:
  • Partied in Dublin for St. Patrick's Day
  • Learned how to make schnitzel in Germany
  • Spent Holy Week and Easter in Lourdes
  • Soaked up the sun in Ibiza
  • Made paella and sangria in Barcelona
  • Seen the Shroud in Turin
  • Explored the Parthenon in Athens
  • Ridden a donkey around Santorini
To add a little extra excitement to our already exciting trip, we got stuck in Greece after the Icelandic volcano erupted. Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard about this random Icelandic volcano spewing up clouds of ash, creating the biggest flight delay since WWII. My friend Ania and I were among the thousands of travelers stranded due to the cancellation of most flights in Europe. For some people, the flight cancellations meant days of waiting around indefinitely at airport departure gates. For us, it meant two extra days on a Greek island paradise!

Let me backtrack. It started out with St. Patrick's Day in Dublin, Ireland.

Then two weeks in Germany, France, and Luxembourg with family friends.

A week in Lourdes, France.

A few days in Ibiza, Spain.

A few days in Barcelona.

A day in Turin, Italy.

A few days in Athens, Greece.

And nearly a week in Santorini, Greece (after our flight was canceled).
