Best adapted films

I just saw the trailer to the new movie, The Time Traveller's Wife-- based on one of my favorite books of all time, by Audrey Niffenegger. It's a love story that spans a lifetime. It's the beautiful and heartbreaking story of a young girl falls in love with a man who time travels uncontrollably. I read the book a few years ago and I can't wait to see the film. It stars Eric Bana (Troy) and Rachel McAdams (The Notebook). It comes out in theaters August 14. Here's the trailer.

As a book lover and a movie buff, I'm always curious to see how well books are adapted into movies. Of course, the books are usually far superior, but there are some films out there that do a pretty decent job staying true to the book. A list of my favorite films adapted from books (I've only included ones that I've both read and seen):
I'll have to say, my number one request for a book to be made into a movie has to be Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Although, I heard in my high school english class that Salinger won't allow it to be made into a movie while he's still alive.
