Quarantine Life: Day 20, Haircut

I wrote in yesterday’s post about a lightened laundry load being a silver lining of this shelter-in-place mandate. Another silver lining: I get a chance to practice cutting Grant’s hair, while knowing that if I messed it up, at least it would grow back by the time we have to see another human being.

We don’t have proper hair-cutting tools at home and a lot of the clippers/scissors I found for sale online are on backorder. Not surprising. I’m sure everyone else had the same idea. So, we made do with what we had. We had one Wahl electric clipper with one clip-on guard, a comb, a spray bottle, and some office scissors. I prepped by watching a few YouTube how-to videos.

I’m also grateful for Grant’s complete and utter trust in this process. He gave me carte blanche to do whatever I wanted with his hair. He told me not to worry because even if I ended up not liking it, he wouldn’t mind just shaving his head and having a fresh start.

Armed with my husband’s complete trust and my clippers, I got to it. I wanted to give him a fresh, clean look with shorter hair on the sides while keeping most of the length on top. I’ll have to say I’m pretty happy with the results. This was our first run and I’ll probably have a few more opportunities to hone my craft before this quarantine is all over.
