Fantastic love story: Random Harvest

I just saw one of them most fantastic love stories I've seen in a long time! Random Harvest (1942) stars Ronald Colman as an amnesiac WWI veteran who meets and falls in love with a gorgeous singer, Greer Garson. Although he has no recollection of his past, they manage to build a wonderful life together in the English countryside. However, an accident one day causes him to remember his old life and completely lose all memories of his new life. What ensues is a beautiful story of second chances and the enduring power of love.

Colman and Garson give incredibly subtle and heartbreaking performances that I know will stick in my mind for years to come. Love stories are rather formulaic nowadays. They're mostly about initial animosity, turned into physical attraction, turned into jealousy, followed by reconciliation. It's not often that you come across a movie that actually promotes kindness, patience, and selflessness-- the side of love that isn't as easy to glamorize. If you want a good old-fashioned romance, pop a tub of popcorn, grab a cozy blanket and watch Random Harvest (free in its entirety here on Youtube).

Here is a little sneak peek.
